Caregiver Certification Requirements

Please carefully review the below certification requirements for both traditional Self-Determination and Children’s Waiver cases.

Absolutely NO online courses can be taken except Bloodborne Pathogens. All classes must be face-to-face and taken in a classroom, including First Aid and CPR.

Traditional Self-Determination

Recipient Rights: Renewal every 2 years

  • Please visit TRAINING.MCCMH.NET for the MCCMH class schedules. Registration is not needed for Recipient Rights.
  • A copy of the Employment Agreement is needed to attend this class. It can be found in the New Hire Packet if the original is not available.

First Aid: Renewal every 2 years (must be done face-to face)

CPR: Renewal every 2 years (must be done face-to-face)

Bloodborne Pathogens: Renewal every year

  • Please visit HTTP://PLP.MIVU.ORG
  • Must be OSHA/MIOSHA approved.
  • Registration is required to print the certificate. Please enter Bloodborne Pathogens in the search box to locate the free class.

Children’s Waiver

Recipient Rights: Renewal every 2 years

  • Please visit TRAINING.MCCMH.NET for the MCCMH class schedules. Registration is not needed for Recipient Rights.

Bloodborne Pathogens: Renewal every year

TB Test: No Renewal

  • Employee must contact their local medical office and submit confirmed TB test results.

Training verification: No Renewal

  • This form must be completed by both the case manager and employee.

Training Reimbursement

  • TRAINING REIMBURSEMENT PDF
  • Staff may be compensated for attending training classes at the rate of $9.45 per hour.
  • This does NOT include any travel time, only the time spent in the classroom.
  • The cost of the class(es) taken may be reimbursed if the budget allows. Please check with your FI.
  • This sheet must be attached to the new training certifications when they are submitted to Lifelong Advocacy for reimbursement. The staff will be compensated within 30 days of submission.
